BLS Professional Studies student, Zann Nelson, is a Historical Investigator, Writer, and Public Speaker. Zann Initiated a resolution “Acknowledging with profound regret the existence and acceptance of lynching within the commonwealth” in the 2019 Virginia General Assembly. After the passage of the resolution Zann published an open letter to one of the victims. With the passage of the landmark resolution (Virginia is the 1st and only state to enact such legislation) and equipped with a BLS degree in Professional Studies combined with a Minor in Peace and Conflict Studies, Zann expects to be fully engaged with communities around Virginia and other states in researching the histories of the victims and facilitating peacebuilding activities toward a path of reconciliation.
After more than 45 years of immersion in non-profit organizational development, grassroots political campaigns, museum management, and horse and cattle farming Zann launched a company called History Quest to focus on her one true passion: the investigative work of unknown African American histories. She is an award-winning journalist authoring investigative feature articles and more than 600 columns entitled “Buried Truth” and “Zann’s Place.”
